As is mentioned before, the major software tool that can help you build an iOS app is Xcode, an integrated development environment (IDE) for macOS. It allows creating applications not only for iPhone and iPad but also for Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. To run your app in Simulator, choose an iOS simulator—for example, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, or iPhone 6 + Apple Watch - 38mm—from the Xcode scheme pop-up menu, and click Run. Xcode builds your project and then launches the most recent version of your app running in Simulator on your Mac screen, as shown in Figure 1-1. Figure 1-1 Simulated iPhone running the HelloWorld app. We will now use Xcode to side-load this app to your iPhone or iPad for jailbreak deployment. 14) Now, go back to Xcode and navigate to Window - Devices and Simulators: 15) In the new window, make sure that your iPhone is selected in the sidebar on the left, and then click on the + button near the bottom of the window. Xcode 11 can only be installed on a Mac running macOS Mojave (10.14.4 or above) or macOS Catalina (10.15 or above). Go back to Step 0 and check to make sure you have upgraded to macOS Catalina as. The latest version of Xcode 12 is all you need. Begin by selecting the “Mac” checkbox in the project settings of your existing iPad app to create a native Mac app that you can enhance further. Your Mac and iPad apps share the same project and source code, making it easy to make changes in one place.

SwiftUI is an innovative new user interface framework with a declarative Swift syntax that is easy to read, and natural to write. Amazing new preview tools let you manually type SwiftUI code, or modify the UI with rich design tools, with code and design always in sync. Get a head start on your Mac app by selecting the “Mac” checkbox in the project settings of your existing iPad app. And with support for Swift packages in Xcode 11, you can share code among all your apps, or make use of packages created by the community.
SwiftUI
Xcode 11 includes SwiftUI, a new Swift framework and accompanying design tools that empower a whole new way to build user interfaces. Design tools in Xcode make it as easy as drag-and-drop to construct or edit your interface, all while instantly editing the exact same Swift code file you can also edit by hand. Xcode is constantly running your real app interface live to see how it behaves directly in the design canvas, or you can instantly preview your app on an attached device.
SwiftUI includes:
- Design tools read and write the same code you edit by hand for a single source of truth
- Declarative syntax defines your user interface as easy-to-read Swift code
- Animations are built using simple commands that describe the action you want to see
- Library of controls and modifiers make it easy to design and build complex interfaces
- Share common UI code across all Apple platforms, and add custom experiences for each OS
- Previews show an exact rendering across various device types and accessibility settings
- Interact with your interface live in the design canvas, or on an attached device
- Hot-swap your edits into a live view of your app to instantly see and interact with changes

This tutorial will guide you to run your iOS App in your own Mac under the simulator of the Xcode tool.
Our App Maker will create a complete iOS App for you with navigation toolbar, the icons set for all the iPhone and the iPad versions, you can push notifications to your iOS App users and get the usage statistics of your App by using the Google Firebase service (FREE) and even earn money with the Google AdMob service.
In order to run your iOS App, Apple requires you to have a Mac computer with the Xcode tool installed on it. The Xcode is the primary development tool of Apple for developing applications for the Apple products. Unfortunately, Apple released this tool for the Mac PCs only and there is no legitimate way to install it on Windows / Linux PCs. You can install the Mac OS in a Virtual Machine (such as Virtualbox) under Windows or Linux OSs and then install the Xcode on it, but this is not recommended.
This tutorial will guide you to run your iOS App in your own Mac computer under the simulator of the Xcode tool.
In the related links section you will find more useful information of how to use more advanced features of your iOS App, such as installing it on your iPhone or iPad device, push notifications to your App users and publish your App in the Apple App Store.
Here are the stages to compile and run your iOS App in your Mac under the simulator of the Xcode tool.
- Download and install the Xcode from the Mac App Store.
- Download and extract your iOS App anywhere in your machine, for instance your Desktop.
- Open the Terminal and redirect to your iOS App directory.
- Now we need to install the CocoaPods. Type and enter:
#sudo gem install cocoapods -n /usr/local/bin
- Now install the Google Firebase and the AdMob pods:
#pod install
- Open the directory of your iOS App with the Finder, then open the .xcworkspace file.
- The Xcode will open your iOS App and will do some things in the background in order to run your App for the first time.
- That’s it, now you can click on the play button, the Xcode tool will open the iPhone simulator and will run your iOS App on it.
- This example uses the Qrcode.Plus webapp which allows you to create a smart Qrcode lables.
